Ski Tignes

I suspect many of you arriving at this page will already be familiar with the ski resort of Tignes, but for those of you who are not, here's what the "Where to Ski & Snowboard 2005" Guide said about it:-

"The appeal of Tignes is simple: good snow, spread over a wide area of varied terrain, shared with Val d'Isere. Together the two resorts form the enormous Espace Killy - a Mecca for experts, and ideal for adventurous intermediates."

We go along pretty much with that view of Tignes - great skiing, albeit in a rather 'lunar' landscape bereft of trees, in resorts which are functional rather than pretty.

Snowboarding in Tignes Tignes has always been a popular place for boarding, with a wealth of easily accessible off-piste activity, and a number of specialist snowboard schools.

Accommodation in Tignes

Tignes accommodation is centred in 4 main areas - the central area comprising Le Lavachet and the original village Tignes-le-Lac (the centre of which is often referred to as Le Rosset), Tignes Val Claret a mile or so up the valley, then the two villages of Tignes-Les-Boisses and Tignes-Les-Brevieres, lower down the Tignes valley. Buses between the various Tignes accommodation centres run pretty frequently, so where you stay in Tignes is more driven by the style of accommodation you require, rather than proximity to particular ski areas.
